It was not the Babylonians, Egyptians nor the Greeks which gave us the number Zero, but the Indians, as long ago as the 5th Century BC.

Zero was the foundation for many things, not least modular arithmetic (eg. binary) and the Prescriptive Descriptive modelling process whose use is pervasive through the Sciences (eg. BNF Grammars).
